Fathers of newborn children, who benefit from parental leave, will be able to receive allowances. In this regard, in its meeting on 2 November the Cabinet of Ministers approved the Regulation on conditions for establishment and calculation of paternal indemnity.
The regulation guarantees the right to paternal indemnity for persons covered by the public social security system or employed under individual employment contracts for the care of newborns with domicile or residence in Moldova.
Paternity leave is granted in the first 56 days after childbirth, for a period of up to 14 calendar days, upon an application in writing. The employee may receive a paternal allowance, paid from the state social insurance budget, and established, tracked and organized by the National Social Insurance House.
Employees covered by the public social insurance are entitled to parental allowance if a total contribution of at least 3 years is confirmed, out of which at least 9 months must be in the last 24 months prior to the child’s birth.
With the approval of the mechanism for establishing, calculating and paying such allowances, fathers of newborn children eligible for parental leave as of 27 May will be able to raise their allowances in the same conditions.
The law on paternity leave was approved by the Parliament on 27 May 2016.
