The Platform for Gender Equality (hereinafter – the Platform) is a voluntary association of individuals and businesses that act as a unified voice for active promotion of gender equality. The platform was launched on 19th of June, 2015. Currently, it has 26 members and it is still open to new members.
Our Mission: Promoting gender equality in Moldova by improving the legal framework and ensuring its proper implementation.
Our Vision: Creating a fair and egalitarian society from a perspective of gender equality and human rights.
Our goals are reflected in the government program designed to promote gender equality for the period of 2014 – 2018, which are also included in the Gender Equality Agenda. These goals are the following:
- Promote a balanced participation and representation of women in politics;
- Prevent and combat violence against women and domestic violence;
- Promote a propitious environment to ensure gender equality in the labor market;
- Promote women’s entrepreneurship;
- Promote an adequate institutional framework for ensuring gender equality.
The Platform is run by the Permanent Board and is assisted by the Secretariat, together facilitating the promotion of gender equality in Moldova at both levels, nationally and locally.
The Platform was created with the aim of advocating and lobbying the adaptation of the bill no. 180. Through public awareness activities, meetings with parliamentary committees and ministries, the members of the Platform managed to pursue successfully the parliament to adopt the law no.71 (formally bill no.180) which introduced the paternal leave for 14 days and a gender quota of 40% for political parties, and defined sexism and sexist commercials.
In a short period of time, the Platform managed to establish itself and become an important voice within the field of gender equality.
